about

‘Like The World Outside’ was written in 2015 and was first an instrumental. Little by little the song evolved with vocal parts and lyrics. These are based on childhood memories from the rural village where I grew up. The song is about the horrible things children are capable of. The phrase “the creature they made” refers to an autobiographical memory of boys cutting a dead rat to pieces and “reassembling” it as an alien creature.

lyrics

Do you remember
When your children were outside
Do you remember
Unspeakable acts
Do you remember
The creature they made
When they longed to be
Like the world outside
Restless creatures
Craving stranger lives
Remember the days
When they came to your world
In corruption you rise
From the sweet fields beyond
Remember the creature
Remember the creature
Remember the creature
Remember the creature
